AEW star Eddie Kingston says he was ‘wrong’ in how he dealt with a backstage issue with Sammy Guevara which led to his suspension.

The hugely popular wrestler reportedly clashed with his on-screen rival backstage after taking issue with something that was said by Sammy in a promo a few weeks ago.

On Wednesday night, it was reported by PWInsider and Fightful Select that Kingston had been suspended for the past few weeks after getting physical with Guevara behind the scenes.

Now, the wrestler has addressed the news and said while the fans are free to make up their own minds on the situation as a whole, Kingston says he ‘was wrong’ for his role in the row.

He told PWIInsider in a statement: ‘You know the truth. I wouldn’t lie. I was wrong for being unprofessional. That is the blind fact. He did what he did and the public can judge that but I know for a fact I was wrong.’

It’s said he is expected to return on next week’s episode of Dynamite.

The two stars were set to face off at AEW All Out on September 4, although it’s unclear whether or not that match is still on the card.

Their respective roles on the show should be firmed up next Wednesday, with both men in need of a match on one of the company’s biggest events of the year.

Meanwhile, AEW also has a world championship out to set up, with Jon Moxley’s match on the card a complete mystery after the manner in which he defeated CM Punk last night.

The interim champ – who won the gold while Punk was out due to injury – defeated Punk in a matter of minutes on Wednesday to be crowned the official titleholder.

Some fans had expected MJF to make an appearance to set up a massive clash for All Out, or even for a screwy ending to force a rematch between Punk and Moxley, but now there is no obvious route worthy of such a big show.

AEW Dynamite airs Wednesdays at 1am on Fite TV.
