Best places to work in Massachusetts: Wegmans, Boston Children’s Hospital among Top 15, Forbes survey says

A new survey by Forbes has ranked and revealed the best places to work in Massachusetts.

Forbes partnered with the marketing research company Statista to compile its fourth annual list of “America’s Best Employers by State,” with 51 total rankings — one for each state, along with the District of Columbia.

According to Forbes the survey was compiled by surveying 70,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees and was also conducted anonymously — which allowed participants to freely share their opinions.

Here’s the breakdown on how top companies with a presence in Massachusetts faired according to Forbes:

15: Dell Technologies, founded in 1984 and headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, the tech company employs 42,560 nationwide.

14: Raytheon Technologies, founded in 1922 and headquartered in Waltham. Back in June, Raytheon announced that it will move its headquarters to Arlington, Virginia. The company employs 174,000 people.

13: Intel, founded in 1968 and headquartered in Santa Clara, California, the tech company employs 121,100 people.

12: Waters, founded in 1958 and headquartered in Milford, the tech company employs 7,800 people.

11: Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, which was founded in 1811.

10: Riverside Community Care in Dedham, which was founded in 1982.

9: Cardinal Health, founded in 1971 and headquartered out of Dublin, Ohio. The health care equipment and services company employs 29,000 people.

8: Fidelity Investments, founded in 1946 and headquartered in Boston. The banking and financial services company employs 52,000 people.

7: Apple, founded in 1976 and headquartered in Cupertino, California. The company employs 154,000 people.

6: Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. The higher education institution was founded in 1861 and employs 15,722 people.

5: Cisco Systems, founded in 1984 and headquartered in San Jose, California. The internet, software and information technologies company employs 38,000 people.

4: Hilton, founded in 1919 and headquartered in McLean, Virginia. The hospitality company employs 142,000 people.

3: Microsoft, founded in 1975 and headquartered in Redmond, Washington. The tech company employs 103,000 people.

2: Boston Children’s Hospital, founded in 1869 in the city.

1: Wegmans Food Markets, founded in 1916 and headquartered in Rochester, New York. The supermarket chain employs 52,000 people.

Other notable rankings in Massachusetts include Google in 19th place, Whole Foods Market in 23rd place, the United States Postal Service in 25th place, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in 27th place, UMass Memorial Health in 29th place and Johnson & Johnson in 30th.

Additionally, JP Morgan Chase ranked in 33rd place in Massachusetts, while the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an employer was in 35th place.

Harvard University came in 38th place overall according to Forbes, which also found that the University of Massachusetts Amherst was in 42nd place, just ahead of the UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester at 43rd place.

Farther down the list included The Home Depot in 44th place in Massachusetts, along with Pfizer in 46th place, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority in 47th place and Mass General Brigham in 50th place.

Other notable companies toward the bottom of the Massachusetts ranking include Amazon in 68th place, Oracle in 69th place and Best Buy in 70th place, the last company listed for the Bay State.
