Florence Pugh has severely limited the amount of promotional press she will be doing for the upcoming film Don’t Worry Darlingaccording to a recent report from TheWrap.
The report mentions that three executives to the film, as well as an individual with knowledge of Pugh’s involvement, all wouldn’t confirm any press plans beyond Pugh’s planned attendance at the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Following her appearance there, she will fly back to Budapest, where she will continue filming Dune: Part Two with Denis Villeneuve.
While some executives say the move from Pugh was known ahead of time — one executive told TheWrap that Pugh would be “doing greetings for us from the set of Dune because she’s not doing press” — it does add fuel to the rumors circulating that Pugh and director Olivia Wilde had a falling out due to Wilde’s ongoing relationship with actor and artist Harry Styles.
These rumors date back to an initial report from Page Six in July, which noted that Pugh was not happy with seeing Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles “all over each other on set,” mostly due to the fact that Wilde was still with actor Jason Sudeikis at the time. The pair would later end their marriage in November 2020. According to the report, Sudeikis and the pairs two children would often visit the set of the film in its early production, a move that left people “uncomfortable” at the time.
Since the initial report, and compounded by smaller things like fans noticing Pugh did not engage on social media with any of Wilde’s posts on the film, fans have continued to speculate over the relationship between the two.
Earlier this week, things continued to spike up, as actor Shia LaBeouf and Wilde got into a bit of a back-and-forth after Wilde alleged that LaBeouf had been fired from the film, leading the actor to dispute that notion and release a video in which Wilde seems to acknowledge LaBeouf quit the film, while also calling out Pugh as “Miss Flo” and implying that she needed a “wake up call.”
While fans will never know what really happened behind the scenes, the film and its stars will be at the Venice Film Festival for its premiere next week. However, it’s highly unlikely either Pugh or Wilde will answer any questions about their relationship.
